Profound Emotions Tied to Tradition

GardenRosesTradition is the history of society. Many traditions, such as weddings, are accentuated by the use of flowers and beautifully arranged bouquets. The floral aromas stimulate our senses and bring back memories of those happy occasions for years to come. The scent of lilac blooms and garden roses always take me back to the excitement and joy I felt as a child knowing that summer vacation was just around the corner. While those fun-filled summer breaks from my childhood are long behind me, the scents of the season continue to evoke those feelings.
It’s not surprising that flowers and plants have been a part of human traditions since humans began to walk the Earth. In ancient Greece, for example, ivy represented enduring love. Early Romans carried herbs under their veils to ward off evil spirits and ensure fertility. Flowers continue to have a strong impact on us. Scientific research reveals that flowers make intimate connections, leading us to have increased contact with family and friends, and have an immediate impact on happiness.
EntryWayA survey by the Society of American Florists (SAF) found that eight in 10 Americans would respond positively to a gift of flowers from a romantic interest. I can honestly say that my recent gift of flowers was a gesture that had much meaning for me. For an entire week I smiled every time I gazed upon them, and guests of my home consistently commented on their beauty. Not surprisingly, the SAF survey also shows that 66 percent of men and 95 percent of women enjoy receiving flowers.
The gift of flowers is memorable. In fact, six out of every 10 women in the United States report that they remember the last time they received flowers. We can, therefore, help to secure those happy summer memories for a lifetime by giving this simplest and most expressive gift.
Summer always brings great weather, summer romances, and many weddings. Your florist can help you choose just the right summer blooms to express your feelings and celebrate milestones, such as roses, lilies, delphinium, snapdragons, ranunculus, asters, sunflowers and alstroemeria, or a spectacular mixed bouquet. With wedding season in full force, and upcoming celebrations and summer romances on the horizon, we continue to honor our traditions, promoting symbols of love and creating lasting memories through the giving and receiving of flowers.
Flowers are nature’s gift to humanity.
